5 Simple Steps to Download Your e-Aadhaar

Step 1: Visit the official website of UIDAI

Step 2: Log into the official website of UIDAI and go to the Aadhaar Online Services section. In this menu, you’ll find an option named ‘Download Aadhaar’. Click on it and you’ll be asked to enter certain information. The details required are given below:

  • Enrolment ID/ Aadhaar Number/ VID
  • Your full name
  • Pin code
  • Security code

Note: The enrolment ID is of 28 digits. It is mentioned in the Aadhaar acknowledgement slip and the Virtual ID is supposed to be 16 digits long.

Step 3: Now, you’ll have to enter the TOTP. This can be generated In case you don’t have a TOTP, select ‘Request OTP’ and you will get the OTP delivered to your registered phone number.

Step 4: Enter the OTP received in the field provided.

Step 5: Click on the ‘Download Aadhaar’ button to download your e-Aadhaar card. To open the same, enter the password that is the first 4 letters of your name and your birth year. The letters of your name should be in capitals.

For example, if someone’s name is Rajesh and birth year is 1990, then their password will be RAJE1990.

Other Ways to Download E-Aadhaar Card

Aforementioned is the basic way to download your e-Aadhaar card. You can also download it via different methods. Find them explained below:

Downloading e-Aadhaar via Virtual ID (VID)

The latest addition to the list of services provided by UIDAI is allowing you to download your e-Aadhaar through your VID. Follow the steps given below to download your e-Aadhaar card using the Virtual ID:

Step 1: Visit the official portal of UIDAI

Step 2: Navigate to the “Download Aadhaar” option and click on it

Step 3: From the section of “I have”, click on the VID option

Step 4: Type in your Virtual ID in the given space. Apart from that, you need to enter your full name, pin code, and security code as well.

Step 5: Now, for verification, you can use TOTP or OTP. If you already have the TOTP, then use that feature. Else, click on “Send OTP”

Step 6: Your registered mobile number will receive the OTP. Enter the OTP and click on “Verify”

Step 7: Once verified, you will be able to download the e-Aadhaar into your system

Step 8: In order to open the e-Aadhaar, you need to type in a password. This password comprises of a total of 8 digits, i.e. the first 4 letters of your name in capitals followed by your birth year. 

Download e-Aadhaar Card Using your Enrollment Number

If you don’t have your Aadhaar Card or have somehow forgotten the Aadhaar Number and are wondering if there is any other way to download your e-Aadhaar, then here you go. There is a method that allows you to download the e-Aadhaar even if you cannot provide your Aadhaar number.

And that is possible by using your Aadhaar Enrollment Number/ID, abbreviated as EID. Given below are the steps to download your e-Aadhaar card using the enrollment number:

Step 1: Go to the UIDAI website

Step 2: Click on the option that says “Download Aadhaar”.

Step 3: You will be taken here: https://eaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/ or you can directly click on this link and save some time.

Step 4: Now, in the space provided, you need to type in your 14-digit Aadhaar enrollment number that you can find in the acknowledgement slip. Along with that, you have to enter your 14-digit time and date values.

Step 5: Type in your full name, pin, and image captcha code

Step 6: Click on “Request OTP” to create an OTP

Step 7: Press the “Confirm” button

Step 8: The OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number

Step 9: Now, type in the OTP and left-click your mouse on “Download Aadhaar” to save a soft copy of your Aadhaar card.

Download Aadhaar Card Using Your Name and Date of Birth

In case you can’t provide either of your Aadhaar number and EID, even then, you can download your e-Aadhaar. All you need to provide is your name and date of birth. Given below are the steps you need to follow to execute this.

Step 1: Visit this website: https://resident.uidai.gov.in/lost-uideid

Step 2: Type in your name and your registered e-mail ID or phone number. Then, enter the security code.

Step 3: Now, you will need to enter an OTP for verification. Click on “Send OTP” and you will receive an OTP in your registered mobile number.

Step 4: Type in the OTP and hit “Verify OTP” button

Step 5: A message will pop up on the screen stating that your Aadhaar number has been sent to the registered mobile number.

Step 6: Once you have received the registered Aadhaar enrollment number, go to the website again.

Step 7: This time, click on “I have Aadhaar”.

Step 8: Enter the Aadhaar enrollment number along with a couple of other details: your full name, pin code, and the given image captcha.

Step 9: Click on “Request OTP” button.

Step 10: You will receive an OTP on your registered phone number. Enter this in the space provided and then click on “Download Aadhaar” button to download an electronic copy of the Aadhaar card.

Download e-Aadhaar via the Umang App

Some people prefer apps over websites. If you are one such person, then we have a solution for you too. Umang app is a common platform that allows you to access a lot of government services at a single place. Given below are the steps required to download your e-Aadhaar via the Umang app:

Step 1: Download the Umang app

Step 2: Go to the “All Services” tab and click on “Aadhaar Card”

Step 3: Now, tap on “View Aadhaar Card from DigiLocker”

Step 4: Log in to the platform via your Aadhaar number or DigiLocker Account

Download e-Aadhaar from your DigiLocker Account

DigiLocker has joined hands with UIDAI to allow the Aadhaar cardholders to be able to link their DigiLocker accounts with their Aadhaar.

If you don’t know what DigiLocker is, then here you go. It is a cloud-based platform required for issuing, storing, sharing, and also, verification of the documents in a digital format. This enables a selected organization to add the e-copies to the digital lockers of the customers.

Given below are the steps you need to follow in order to download your e-Aadhaar from your DigiLocker account:

Step 1: Visit the Digi locker website and login to your account.

Step 2: Click on ‘Sign In’ and then type in your 12 digit Aadhaar number in the space provided.

Step 3: Hit on ‘Verify’ and you receive an ‘OTP’ on your registered mobile number.

How to Get the e-Aadhaar Card Without Having a Registered Mobile Number?

Even if you don’t have a mobile number registered with your Aadhaar yet, still you can gain access to your Aadhar card. However, this is not possible online. Rather, this procedure needs to be executed offline. Here’s how:

Step 1: Visit the Aadhaar centre nearest to your home along with your Aadhaar number

Step 2: You will be required to provide some bio-metric details for verification such as thumb verification, retina scan, and so on.

Step 3: Carry other proof of identity as well such as your PAN card or driving license.

Step 4: You will receive a print out of your Aadhaar. If you want it in a normal paper form, then the centre will charge Rs 50 for it and in case of a PVC version, Rs 100 will be required.

How To Get Your Aadhaar Number on Your Mobile Number?

Follow the steps given below to receive your Aadhaar number on mobile.

Step 1: Go to the official UIDAI portal that addresses lost Aadhaar issues.

Step 2: Click on Enrollment ID or Aadhaar Number, whichever you want to retrieve

Step 3: Type in your registered mobile number or mailing ID. Then, enter the security code.

Step 4: Click on “Send OTP” to receive a 6-digit OTP on your phone.

Step 5: Enter your “OTP” and then click on “Submit”

Step 6: The Aadhaar number will be texted to your registered mobile number. Save it or write it down for future reference.

Downloading Masked Aadhaar Card

Masked Aadhaar is just like your usual Aadhaar card but the Aadhaar number is partially hidden in the former. Only the last 4 digits of the Aadhaar number are visible in a masked Aadhaar card. The aim of this is to provide better security to your Aadhaar number.

Otherwise, while used in public, the Aadhaar number might get disclosed to others. Also, the validity of your masked Aadhaar card is the same as the regular one. Given below are the steps to download your masked Aadhaar card:

Step 1: Visit the UIDAI portal for Aadhaar Services: https://eaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/

Step 2: Click on Aadhaar, VID, or Enrollment number (whichever you have available) in the section named “Enter your personal details”

Step 3: Click on “Masked Aadhaar” in the “Select your preference” section. Enter the other details like your Aadhaar number, pin code, name, and security code.

Step 4: Get an OTP on your registered mobile by clicking on “Request OTP”

Step 5: Click on the box beside “I Agree” to allow UIDAI to authenticate your provided details

Step 6: Click on “Confirm” and you will receive the OTP

Step 7: Type in the OTP. Then, click on the option “Download Aadhaar” to download your masked Aadhaar card. 

Things You Should Know Before You Download e-Aadhaar

If your mobile number is not registered with the UIDAI, then you cannot download Aadhaar. In this case, this procedure is suitable to retrieve your Aadhaar.

The UIDAI will send the OTP to your registered phone number for verification before you can download the Aadhaar PDF. So, it’s better to keep your phone with you while attempting to download your Aadhaar.

Aadhaar cannot be download without entering an OTP.

The e-Aadhaar card may be downloaded as many times as an individual wants.

Opening the downloaded Aadhaar PDF required you to enter a password which is the first four letters of your name (in CAPS) and your year of birth. Then, you can take a print out as well.

Ans. No, you cannot update your mobile number linked with Aadhaar card online. For that, you need to visit any Permanent Enrollment centre and proceed accordingly. After the update, your registered mobile number will be changed but the Aadhaar number will stay the same.

You can also use the Self Service Update Portal (SSUP) to update your mobile number. But, for this, you need to upload the scanned versions of a couple of original documents.

Ans. You can download the e-Aadhaar card through face authentication by following the given steps:

Step 1: Go to the UIDAI portal

Step 2: Enter the 12 digit Aadhaar number and the captcha code

Step 3: Select “Face Auth” option

Step 4: Your web camera will start and detect your face

Step 5: The captured image will now be authenticated with the image that UIDAI has in their database.
